Editing 2

We are now making final tweaks to our first draft of our trailer, at the moment we are focussing on titles as this is the main thing missing which brings the trailer together to not only create enigma towards the narrative, but to create order and sense in the trailer.

One of our titles is awards which the film has won. We chose three film festivals (Sundance, Cannes and Heartland) and found their logos online. I opened a new blank photoshop canvas and opened the logos and new layers and organised them on the canvas. I had to invert the logos so they were white on black rather than black on white to fit the black background.

This is the final image we will use in the trailer as a title:

We originally uploaded the image to final cut as a still image and tried to apply an effect or transition to make the titles flow, however none of them fit so we decided to experiment with layers. We looked at the trailer for Fish Tank and how the titles have a water effect behind them which moves. I look online to see how it was done and found you simply have to select the image and go to 'Compositing' and select darken. I then found a video of Verity funning through the subway and dragged it under the awards title image. The lights in the video then showed through the text and logos and the over look was very successful.

Evaluation
  • The text looks very professional and more aesthetically conventional to our genre with the fire and subway shot behind, the orange glow signals danger - which the main character of our film is associated with
  • The effect is inspired by the title sin the trailer to Fish Tank - our titles look just as impressive as those in the Fish Tank trailer and the movement of the background creates a gradient which looks good as the background moves behind the text.
