Website Production

  •  I altered the website to make is more user friendly and have the landing page fit on one screen.
  • We came across a problem when we first published our site as the layout on a mac was different to a windows monitor so we now have to adjust the size and layout of the page to fit on one screen to look more user friendly.
  • I added the orange gradient title by removing the background on Photoshop and saving the image as a .png file. I then imported it onto the website and selected 'No Frame' on the Wix design feature. This removed the background and made the typography on all of our promotional pieces have the same house style (seen below)

  • I deleted the bottom bar as it meant the user had to scroll down which wasn't conventional or user friendly. As I was removing this, I moved the social media icons to the top right of the page on the menu bar and checked on our published site that all of the links led to a new window.
Our website is published at www.invictamedia8.wix/eighteen8

Website Practical 2

Awards- I Uploaded the background images of the awards and then changed the colour to white as the black wasn't visible with the background image. I then typed in the same awards that we used in the trailer and then I made the background transparent which was very simple as the website has a effect which does it quickly instead of having to use Photoshop.

Title- I decided to use the same font as the one in the trailer and the poster to make it all have the same house style. I made the title the largest font size on the website so it would stand out and interlinked the realise date with the page colours e.g. IPC films and the awards. I then placed them together on the brick wall which has the most basic background so it doesn't blend it.

Trailer- I searched for our teaser trailer on YouTube, uploaded it and then re-sized it. I then went on the video settings and made it auto-play when the website is loaded. I then removed the frame and got rid of the titles on top of the video.

IPC films- I uploaded the logo of our production company and resized it and added it next to the drop down menu.

Background- The background image was taken next to an alley way at a garage area. This image was then edited on Photoshop to make it look darker as it was taken in the day time and the wall was made to look older. We decided upon this image instead of the close up this makes the character look more homeless.

Drop-down menu- I changed the font from pink to white so that the colours on the website interlinked  and removed the separators in the menu.

Editing the Website

Editing the Website

To make the website more suitable for our target audience, I added some social media apps to the page.

An example is the 'YouTube Subscribe Button'. This allows the people viewing the website to directly subscribe to our youtube channel. This could be used if we were to release other trailers, so that we could update the fans regularly with new content.

To ensure that it works, we have to register our youtube address. I copied and pasted this from the channel so it is correct. On the website, it appears as the same subscribe button as on youtube pages, so it easy for fans to click.

Another app that I added to the website was the 'Twitter Tweet', this allowed us to set a pre-set tweet so that fans are able to share the youtube link to their follows, increasing publicity.

I chose the set tweet to be 'Can't wait to see this film! www.youtube.com/VIDEOURL'. This will mean that people will want to click the link to watch the trailer.

This is the overall look of the website.

Website practical

http://invictamedia8.wix.com/eighteen8

Font
For the release date I used the font 'Pacifica condensed' and kept it simple with a basic black font colour. For the title I used the font 'Trend', this font is bold and shadowed and uses 'sons serif' which appeals to our target audience as 'serif' targets an older aged audience. With the hyperlinks I made the font colour white which contrasts with the dark grey background to make it stand out and user-friendly.

Tagline
We put the tagline 'Life is delicate. Life is disposable. Life is eighteen.' underneath the title in a small sized font to put the audience's attention on the main title. I used the small tagline which is used in our draft 1 teaser trailer so the website and trailer can relate.

Background
For the background my group and I were going to use a moving image/time lapse as our first draft website however we decided to use the mid-shot of the main character homeless sitting in front of a brick wall and I made sure that the video and titles didn't overlap the main image. We then decided to make the image more transparent which made the lighting look more effective.

YouTube video
I uploaded the first draft teaser trailer onto the website and moved it to the left and re-sized so that it was out the way of the background image. I then went onto settings and changed the video so that it played automatically which the website loads.

Awards
Lastly we then added awards at the bottom of the page which were originally in a black text box however I then made the black box completely transparent which made the awards only visible and re-sized them to fit below the background image.

Deconstruction of promotional websites

Avengers: Age of Ultron

  • Typography – The typography is simple and the silver gives it a metal look which is a hint to the genre. There is also a red glow when you hover around the name of the new tab which gives a supernatural/sci-fi appearance.
  • Background image – The background image is just plain black which makes the Avengers logo and text stand out.
  • Genre – The genre of this film is action/sci-fi – this is obvious due to the logo in the centre which looks quite futuristic and shows the advance in technology
  • Content – The promotional website is very simple and contains relevant tabs such as videos, images, about the film, information about the characters and downloads.
  • Social media – Social media is shown at the top of the screen under the Marvel logo so that fans can read the latest news and stay up to date.
  • Drop down menu – There are no drop down menus as all of the tabs are on the left hand side of the screen which makes it easy to navigate
  • “From the directors of…” – This is usually used in films or websites to target the right audience but Avengers: Age of Ultron have used the Marvel logo as Marvel is a well established company who publishes comic books and films about superheroes.
  • Soundtrack – Soundtrack is available which can also be muted by clicking on the volume button on the top right of the screen
  • Layout – Once you enter the website, you click on the logo in the centre then it takes you to the homepage. The layout is simple yet effective; it is user-friendly as all the tabs are on the side without having to click anywhere else. The age rating and name of the film are also on the bottom right with the Marvel logo above it

Fast and Furious 7

  • Typography - The text is bold as it is an action film
  • Background image – The trailer starts playing in the background as you enter the website
  • Genre – The genre of this film is action – this is obvious as there has been fast and furious sequels and because of the race car in the background of the website
  • Content – The promotional website is fairly simple with the trailer, gallery, the story and special features
  • Social media – Social media is listed above order today with facebook, twitter, youtube, google plus, tumblr and instagram
  • Drop down menu – There are no drop down menus which makes it user-friendly
  • Soundtrack – Soundtrack is available which can also be muted by clicking on the volume button on the bottom right of the screen along with the pause button
  • Layout – Once you enter the website, the trailer plays automatically with music that can be paused. All of the writing are in the same font and there are only 4 tabs which makes it concise and simple

The Fault In Our Stars

  • Typography - The font is the same as the poster/book cover/etc
  • Background image – Image of the main actor and actress - Gus and Hazel
  • Genre – The genre of this film is teen drama/romance – this is obvious from the way they are positioned in the background image
  • Content – The promotional website contains a soundtrack tab, a tab to join the fandom, about the movie and a buy now tab.
  • Social media – Social media is listed on the right side of the tabs which includes twitter, facebook, google plus and a follow sign at the top for tumblr users
  • Drop down menu – There are no drop down menus which makes it user-friendly
  • Soundtrack – No soundtrack is available
  • Layout – The layout is simple with an appropriate colour scheme but the trailer could be listed on the website

    Film Website Deconstruction

    Website Deconstruction

    The Spectacular Now

    [website]

    • The website is not overcrowded and quite simple. The colour scheme is very neutral the only two colours being cream and green.
    • The majority of the website is taken up with the trailer, which plays when the user clicks it, not automatically. We are going to have our trailer play automatically, so that when the user is the on the website, they are drawn into watching the trailer.
    • At the top of the website, there are a few tabs that the user can click to find out more about the film i.e. synopsis and cast and crew.
    • Below this are links to the film’s social media accounts and websites to purchase the film from.
    • The green band at the top of the website is a review, that changes around every 10 seconds, so that the user can see the reviews of the film, so that they can choose whether it is suitable for them or not.
    • Below the trailer is an active link to the accounts tumblr tag. This means that when people post pictures/videos of things about the film with the tag #thespectacularnow it appears on the website. This is a way of getting the audience involved with the film and increasing the amount of online publicity as more people are likely to post about the film if they have the chance of getting onto the film website.

    Paper Towns

    [website]

    • The trailer automatically plays full screen when the website is clicked on. The user has an option to close this, above is an image of the website that comes up as a result of that.
    • The colours of this website are the same as those on the poster and titles in the trailer. This creates brands reputation for the film, attracting the target audience and allowing all three media products to be linked.
    • The yellow and blue work well together as the yellow stands out against the electric blue colour, drawing attention to the tagline and similar films specifically. This targets a specific audience.
    • The main image taking up the website is the same as that on the poster. This, again, creates brand loyalty.
    • In the centre of the website, there is a banner with the options for the user to find out more about the story, trailer and music, amongst others. This makes the audience more active which benefits the publicity of the film through opinion leaders, who lead the people around them (the passive audience) to believe their opinion, which hopefully is that the film is good.
    • Below the banner, is a live link to the film’s tumblr page. Employees of the main production company will look on the film’s tumblr tag to find posts worth reblogging. Once reblogged, the posts would appear on the website. As fans have the chance to get their work reblogged onto the website, more people are likely to upload posts about the film, increasing online publicity.
