Billings Block Creation

A convention of teaser trailers is to have a billings block appear at the end of the trailer to provide information and accreditation's for the film. The billings block is also featured on the poster. We therefore need to create or own billings block unique to the film eighteen. I researched the content of a billings block so that I could draft a first copy.

I then came to the conclusion that most billings block are set out as follows;

PARENT COMPANY presents
in association with PRODUCTION COMPANY 1 a PRODUCTION COMPANY 2 production a DIRECTOR film
LEAD ACTORFILM NAMEACTOR1 ACTOR2 ACTOR3 and ACTOR4

Music by ARTIST  co-producer NAME edited by NAME casting by NAME production designer NAME director of photography NAME

I then applied our accreditation's to the words in italics to create a billings block fo out film feature out groups names (+actors):
AMC NETWORKS presents
in association with IFC FILMS a REFLECTION PICTURES production a GEMMA ROLANDO film
introducing VERITY SWALLOW “EIGHTEEN” OWEN MCLEOD STEVE BRETT JACOB HILL KATIE CLARKE and CHARLOTTE COLWELL
Music by JACOO co-producer LILIAN HO edited by CHLOE HENNESSY casting by WENDY SWAN production designer GEMMA ROLANDO director of photography CHLOE HENNESSY LILIAN HO

I then downloaded the font Universal Accreditation which I found and researched in a previous blog post.

Lower case letters were shortcuts to accreditation's and I therefore retyped out billings block draft with the correct coded letters to being up the write accreditation's;

AMC NETWORKSÃ
IN ASSOCIATION WITH IFC FILMS A REFELCTION PICTURES PRODUCTION
ÊGEMMA ROLANDO êVERITY SWALLOW “EIGHTEEN” OWEN MCLEOD STEVE BRETT JACOB HILL KATIE CLARKE AND CHARLOTTE COLWELL
cJACOO iLILIAN HO eCHLOE HENNESSY

      bWENDY SWAN fGEMMA ROLANDO gCHLOE HENNESSY LILIAN HO

Now I'll past this text into photoshop and apply it to a black screen and change the font colour. I'll also have to add the age rating and other details to the bottom of the billings block. We can then finally add the billings block to the poster and the end of the trailer. The details under the billings block (known as BUGS) include (in this order):

  1. Subsidiary production company logo
  2. Second subsidiary production company logo
  3. website address above release date
  4. rating block
  5. parent production company logo
I created a rating block unique to our film highlighting the content which my be unsuitable for an audience younger than 18,

I copied and pasted the billings text into Photoshop as a new layer and added the logos below and ended up with this as a final piece.

Evaluation
  • I am happy with how this billings bock turned out as it looks professional due to the conventional font
  • It was easy to make due to the font assigning automatic credits to each symbol typed
