Inspiration: Will Darbyshire

Inspiration: Will Darbyshire

Will Darbyshire is a YouTube creator, 'YouTuber', who specialises in short films. He currently has over 485,000 subscribers on his willdarbyshirefilm YouTube channel. Will shoots small 'vlogs' (video blogs) of his travelling adventures, usually featuring his girlfriend Arden.

'38. Sunday' is a video he posted on the 13th of April 2015 about a Sunday in London.

The inspiration from this video includes:
  • I like the framing in the video, although the shots are all handheld, the positioning of the item being filmed is effectively framed. He usually centralises the focus of the shot.

  • The music that is paired with the video is slow, it suits the grayscale filter used throughout. The song 'Have We Met Before' by Tom Rosenthal is piano based.
  • Tom Rosenthal is a 27 year old singer-songwriter from London. The lyrics in his song relate well to the video "Are you on a great adventure, have we met before"
  • The video creates a really nostalgic feel as everyone can relate to a lazy Sunday in their local town/city. In this case it is London.

'39. Asia' is a video he posted on the 28th of April 2015 to share his experiences while travelling  through Asia.

The inspiration from this video includes:
  • The video consists of a sequence of clips made up from a sequence of photos taken in quick succession. He has edited them together to form a moving image. This an effective technique, and I believe we could use it somewhere in our teaser trailer.
  • The sounds in the background of the clips is the raw sound of the location in which he took the photos. He would have taken the photos and recorded the sound separately and then edited the sound in after creating the moving clips.
  • The sounds are all very natural - birds singing, people talking and his footsteps, meaning that he wouldn't have had to edit the sound clips or layer other sounds on top.
  • The video looks as though it was filmed over one day, as the lighting slowly decreases throughout the video. As it was shot over the time he spent it Asia, it can't have been. I like the sequence that he chose to edit the moving images into.
  • All of the clips used have nice colours in, they are all very bright to begin with but soften towards the end of the video.

Below are a few clips that I liked from the video.
