Media magazine inspiration

Gender politics of survival in the walking dead and the hunger games
Gender politics: this refers to a society’s position on gender roles.

The article in the ‘media magazine’ shows how the hunger games and walking dead gender roles of survival differ. The main female character in the hunger games is represented as an independent and strong woman in which the male character relies on her strength for his survival. This representation doesn’t conform to common media images of woman, as the usual perception of woman is being weak, dependant on others and in need of protection.

Whereas gender roles differ in ‘the walking dead’ where the article implies, ‘his heavy-handed approach ensures that he is seen as the alpha male without whom the women would not be able to survive’, this portrays the idea that woman are the weaker gender and rely on the opposite gender in order to survive.

Another example of gender politics in other films:

Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008);
Vicky had no tolerance for pain and no list for combat. She is grounded and realistic. Her requirements in a man were seriousness and stability.

A dystopian narrative tells a story about an imaginary future that is an anti-utopia; the world may have the illusion of equality, peace and prosperity, but it's maintained through oppressive social control.

A Postmodernist film attempts to articulate postmodernism through the medium of film. Postmodernist film attempts to subvert the mainstream conventions of narrative structure, characterization and destroys the audience's suspension of disbelief.

Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

The dystopian narrative relates to both ‘hunger games’ and ‘the walking dead’ as they are based in the future.
